Harvesting Vegetables

Veg-out, save the Earth!

WHY PEL?

Food, Climate and Health Are Connected!

PEL is focused on transitioning the global population toward eating a Planetary Health Diet.  There is an overwhelming body of evidence suggesting that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds is a required method to achieve both the highest attainable health for an individual and a thriving, cleaner earth. The Planetary Health Diet is not a vegan diet, but rather a diet that emphasizes plant-based food grown efficiently in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Current meat and processed food production and consumption exceed sustainable planetary boundaries. Animal-based, high-salt, high-fat, and highly processed diets are responsible for the deaths of 10 to 11.6 million people annually.   The Planetary Health Diet will fight climate change and improve our health.

PEL operates at the intersection of food, climate, and healthcare, working with NGOs, doctors, and ministries of health in low and middle-income countries to fight climate change through (1) education, (2) preventing diet-based diseases through planetary health nutritional programming and (3) improving medical outcomes by designing and implementing food-as-medicine programs and nutritional protocols.

We strive for the world’s population to eat a planet-focused and health-focused diet to improve human health and halt planetary environmental degradation as the world's population grows.

PEL promotes the Planetary Health Diet.
