Our Mission
Plants Earth Life (PEL) works to improve human health and restore planetary balance by accelerating the global shift toward the Planetary Health Diet—a way of eating centered on whole, plant-based foods that prevent disease, heal ecosystems, and advance food justice for all.
Our Vision
A world where nutritious, planet-friendly diets are accessible, affordable, and culturally adaptable—everywhere. From rural hospitals and school gardens to urban kitchens, we envision communities nourished by foods that sustain both people and the planet.
Our Approach
PEL connects science, action, and hope.
PEL exists to help people move toward healthier, more sustainable eating—without perfection, pressure, or judgment. Whether you are taking your first step or aiming higher, we translate the science of whole-food, plant-based nutrition into practical, compassionate paths that meet you where you are and help you move forward.
The PEL Leapfrog Strategy
Across many low- and middle-income countries, diverse traditional diets have increasingly given way to inexpensive, starch-dominated diets that provide calories but too little nutritional diversity. Now, as food systems modernize and cities expand, a second, potentially devastating transition is underway: the rapid spread of highly processed, nutrient-poor foods laden with added sugars, salt, and unhealthy fats. This emerging “chronic disease diet” is replacing one form of malnutrition with another—fueling obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic illnesses while leaving underlying nutritional deficiencies unresolved.
Most countries move the hidden hunger to the diet of chronic disease.
PEL believes they don’t have to.
PEL’s leapfrog strategy is to help communities bypass this destructive transition altogether. By strengthening diverse local food systems and making nutritious, predominantly whole-plant foods part of everyday institutional and community life, PEL offers a pathway from food insecurity and hidden hunger directly toward better health—without passing through the costly epidemic of diet-related chronic disease already gripping much of the industrialized world. Where the chronic disease diet has already taken hold, PEL helps individuals, institutions, and communities reverse course. Our ambition is to catalyze a healthier food transition that can ultimately reshape entire food systems
In countries like the US, where the chronic disease diet is well embedded we help people move out of it with the PEL Challenge and the Diet ID.
This is prevention at scale.
